Frequently asked questions

Because stepping into something new always comes with questions — here’s everything you need to know before joining a Wild Heart retreat or adventure in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Who are Wild Heart adventures for?

Wild Heart experiences are for women of all ages and backgrounds who want to reconnect with themselves, nature, and others. Whether you’re craving rest, movement, or a mix of both, our guided retreats and small-group hiking adventures are designed to meet you where you are - no pressure, no competition, no need to “keep up.”

Do I need hiking experience?

For our active retreats we recommend that you are comfortable walking for 6-8 hours with breaks. Our women’s retreats and guided hikes in New Zealand are beginner-friendly and fully supported. We move at a steady, inclusive pace - with options for rest or extra challenge if you’d like it.

What’s included in the trip cost?

Each Wild Heart retreat or adventure includes:

  • Accommodation in thoughtfully chosen lodgings (from boutique lodges to cosy cabins)

  • Nourishing meals and snacks

  • Guided hikes or outdoor activities

  • Facilitation, workshops, and group support

Flights, travel insurance, and personal purchases are not included. Full inclusions are listed on each trip page.

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely - many women do. Many of our guests arrive solo and leave with lasting friendships. Our trips are designed to foster connection, belonging, and ease - whether you’re coming alone or with a friend.

What if I have dietary needs or accessibility requirements?

We accommodate most dietary needs and accessibility considerations. Please include any relevant information when booking or email us directly at hello@wildheartnewzealand.com so we can make sure you’re supported.

What is your refund and cancellation policy?

Please refer to our Refund Policy for full terms. We recommend travel insurance that covers cancellations, illness, and unexpected changes to your plans.

Can you organise a private or custom retreat?

Yes. We offer private and bespoke women’s retreats and small-group adventure experiences across New Zealand. These can be tailored for friends, teams, or organisations seeking connection, nature, and wellbeing. Get in touch at hello@wildheartnewzealand.com to start the conversation.

What should I pack?

Once you’ve booked, you’ll receive a detailed packing list tailored to your trip and season - including hiking essentials, comfortable clothing, optional extras, and tips for staying warm, dry, and comfortable in the New Zealand outdoors.

Where are Wild Heart retreats held?

Our women’s retreats and guided adventures take place in New Zealand’s South Island - including Lake Hāwea, Glenorchy, Twizel and Fiordland. Each location is chosen for its natural beauty, peaceful energy, and access to wild landscapes.

What fitness level do I need?

You don’t need to be an athlete. Most retreats include guided walks and hikes suited to a range of fitness levels. If you can walk comfortably for a few hours with rest stops, you’ll be well-prepared.

What’s the difference between a retreat and an adventure?

Our retreats focus on movement and rest - a balance of comfort and connection.

Our adventures involve more active days in the outdoors, including guided hikes and backcountry experiences. Both combine nature, sisterhood, and support.

Who leads the retreats and hikes?

Each experience is guided by Hannah Rae and Peta Adie, co-founders of Wild Heart, alongside experienced local guides. Together, they bring years of outdoor experience, coaching, and facilitation to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment.

How big are the groups?

We keep our group sizes small - typically 8 to 12 women - so every journey feels personal, supported, and connected.

What if the weather changes?

New Zealand’s weather can shift quickly. Our guided hikes and outdoor sessions are flexible and may adapt to conditions. We always have alternative activities or sheltered spaces available - so your experience remains comfortable and enjoyable, rain or shine.

What if i have my period during the trip?

We completely get it - heading into the outdoors while menstruating can feel overwhelming or anxiety-inducing. You’re not alone. Between us, we’ve navigated everything from endo flare-ups to challenging cycles out on the trail, so we understand this from lived experience.

What you need will depend on the type of trip. Each retreat or trek includes guidance around practical considerations, comfort, and hygiene in the trip details - but everyone’s body is different.

If you have concerns, please reach out. We’re always here to talk it through and offer personalised advice to help you feel prepared, supported, and at ease.
